TV and streaming
My TV says no signal. How do I fix it?
No signal usually means the TV is looking at the wrong input, not that the TV is broken. The cable box, Roku, Fire TV, or HDMI cable may be on a different input.
The short answer
Press Input or Source on the remote, try the HDMI inputs one by one, and make sure the cable box or streaming device is powered on.
Now try it on your device
Choose your path
Pick the device or situation that matches the screen in front of you.
Steps for Cable box or streaming stick
- 1Make sure the device is plugged into power.
- 2Make sure the HDMI cable is firmly plugged into the TV.
- 3Note the HDMI number on the TV port.
- 4Use the TV remote to choose that same HDMI input.
One safety note
Do not factory reset the TV for a no signal message.
Before you change settings
1Check whether the cable box, Roku, or streaming device has a power light.
2Look at which HDMI port the cable is plugged into.
3Try Input, Source, or Home on the TV remote.
What to know first
What this usually means
- The TV is on the wrong HDMI input.
- The cable box or streaming stick is off.
- The HDMI cable is loose.
- Someone used a different remote and changed the source.
Do not do this yet
- Do not factory reset the TV for a no signal message.
- Do not unplug every cable without taking a photo first.
- Do not buy a new HDMI cable until you have checked the input.
