Accounts and passwords
How do I find a password saved on my phone?
Phones can save passwords, but you should only view them when you are signing in yourself. Never read a password or one-time code to someone who called or messaged you.
The short answer
Open the phone's password manager, search for the website or app name, unlock with Face ID, fingerprint, PIN, or passcode, then use the password only on the official app or website.
Now try it on your device
Choose your path
Pick the device or situation that matches the screen in front of you.
Steps for iPhone
- 1Open Settings.
- 2Tap Passwords.
- 3Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
- 4Search for the website or app and tap it to view the saved username and password.
One safety note
Do not send a password by email or text.
Before you change settings
1Search by the website name, not just the company name.
2Make sure you are on the real app or website before entering the password.
3If the phone asks for your passcode, that is normal. If a caller asks for it, stop.
What to know first
What this usually means
- The password was saved under a different website name.
- The password is saved in Chrome, Safari, iCloud Keychain, or Google Password Manager.
- The app uses sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook instead of a separate password.
- The password was never saved.
Do not do this yet
- Do not send a password by email or text.
- Do not share a one-time code with anyone who contacted you.
- Do not enter the password on a page opened from a suspicious link.
