Wi-Fi and internet

How do I find my Wi-Fi password?

You usually do not need to reset the router to find the Wi-Fi password. It may be saved on a connected device or printed on the router label.

The short answer

Check the router label first, then look on a device that is already connected to the Wi-Fi.

Now try it on your device

Choose your path

Pick the device or situation that matches the screen in front of you.

3 options

Steps for Windows

  1. 1Open Settings, Network & internet.
  2. 2Open Wi-Fi details or advanced network settings.
  3. 3Look for the saved Wi-Fi network password option.
  4. 4Use the password only for devices you trust.

One safety note

Do not reset the router just to find the password.

Before you change settings

1Look for labels named Wi-Fi password, network key, WPA key, or wireless key.
2Make sure you are reading the password for your current Wi-Fi name.
3If the password was changed from the default, the router label may be old.

What to know first

What this usually means

  • The default password label does not match the changed password.
  • There are two Wi-Fi names, such as main and guest.
  • Capital letters or similar characters are typed wrong.
  • A device is connected by cellular data, not Wi-Fi.

Do not do this yet

  • Do not reset the router just to find the password.
  • Do not share the Wi-Fi password with unknown visitors.
  • Do not read the password aloud to someone who called claiming to be support.
