Bluetooth and audio

My Bluetooth headphones will not connect. How do I fix it?

Bluetooth often gets confused because the headphones remember an old device. The fix is usually to charge them, put them in pairing mode, forget the old connection, and pair again.

The short answer

Charge the headphones, turn Bluetooth off and on, forget the old device entry, put the headphones in pairing mode, then pair them again.

Now try it on your device

Choose your path

Pick the device or situation that matches the screen in front of you.

2 options

Steps for iPhone or Android

  1. 1Open Bluetooth settings.
  2. 2Tap the headphones and choose Forget, Unpair, or Remove.
  3. 3Put the headphones in pairing mode.
  4. 4Tap the headphones when they appear in the available devices list.

One safety note

Do not reset all network settings before trying forget and pair.

Before you change settings

1Charge the headphones for at least 10 minutes.
2Turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that may be stealing the connection.
3Look up how your exact headphones enter pairing mode.

What to know first

What this usually means

  • The headphones are connected to a different phone, tablet, or computer.
  • They are not actually in pairing mode.
  • The battery is too low to pair reliably.
  • An old pairing entry is broken.

Do not do this yet

  • Do not reset all network settings before trying forget and pair.
  • Do not buy new headphones until you test them with another device.
  • Do not install unknown Bluetooth repair apps.
