Quick fix - Bluetooth & audio
My Bluetooth device asks for a code. What should I enter?
Some Bluetooth devices ask for a PIN or passkey during pairing. For many older devices it is 0000 or 1234, but the safest answer is the one shown in the device manual or on both screens.
Good news: this is one of the easier ones to start with.

Emily never asks for passwords, one-time codes, or remote access.
The 30-second answer
Try the code shown on the device screen first. If there is no screen, check the manual or try common default codes like 0000 or 1234 only for devices you own and recognize.
The thing that fixes it most often
The device uses an old default PIN.
Pair again cleanly
Forget the old handshake.
Most Bluetooth fixes are just making both sides stop remembering the bad connection.
Try these first
- 1
Make sure you are pairing the device you actually own.
- 2
If two screens show codes, confirm they match before approving.
- 3
Use 0000 or 1234 only for older devices without a screen.
Now try it on your setup
Pick the situation that matches what is in front of you.
Steps for Headphones or speaker
- 1
Put the device in pairing mode.
- 2
Choose it from your phone or computer Bluetooth list.
- 3
If asked for a PIN, check the manual or label first.
- 4
Try 0000, then 1234 only if it is your device and no manual code is available.
What this usually means
- The device uses an old default PIN.
- The phone is trying to pair with the wrong nearby device.
- The code expired before it was approved.
- The old pairing needs to be forgotten first.
Do not do these yet
- Do not pair with a device name you do not recognize.
- Do not approve a mismatched code.
- Do not install Bluetooth helper apps from pop-ups.
